all the man has to do is pull the trigger — yet he still gets disarmed. How come? i don’t think it is possible.

Very carefully.
Lloyd Irvin Jr is a grappling phenom of sorts. H e really isn’t MMA he is BJJ. BJJ has taught weapons disarming ever since the beginning. A lot of people do not know that because all they see is the sport side of it. Personally I would not have tried to do that. I just would have let them take all my shit and called the cops later
What Brandon Vera actually did was remove the clip from the gun, which is done by a simple button on the side, someone with a knowledge of handguns can use this 2 take the clip from the gun, and then disarm the attacker himself. What do you mean you dont think its possible? Look at it this way you’ve playfully wrestled with friends over some object like a stolen shoe or wever right? The same principles apply with a gun, for the most part. It takes 0.5 seconds for the average person to recognize and unexpected attack, meaning that if the lightning fast, trained hands of vera, can tap that button in under half a second, (which I have no doubt.) then he could easily disarm his attacker.
Well, it happened, so it clearly IS possible. A person with a warrior’s heart is going to be able to handle situations like that, regardless of whether he does MMA or tap dancing.
One thing that might have been a factor, though, was that the robbers were unprepared to kill anyone. After all, they could have just killed everyone while they slept before searching the place. It’s possible that his subconsciously mind wouldn’t let him take a life so needlessly, and that’s why he didn’t pull the trigger.
When you mean mixed martial arts expert are you talking about someone who’s trained in MMA or someone who has crosstrained in several martial arts or in hybrid arts?
Because MMA is a sport and doesn’t train fighters to disarm people wielding guns or knives or things like that. The fighter would’ve had to have received extra training outside of his normal MMA regimen to know that kind of technique.
If you’re just talking about a martial artist who has spent years and years perfecting their technique to disarm a gunman, well then I would say it’s definitely possible. Of course no one would suggest trying it, but if you know the guy just wants to kill you, then you might as well give it a shot since you have nothing to lose.
Still, you have a point, all the guy has to do is pull the trigger. But there are several martial arts that employ weapon disarms that are used by police and military personnel all around the world. I highly doubt they would bother teaching them if they didn’t work, but I’m sure there’s someone somewhere out there who has taken a guy away from someone else.
Just because someone does mma, doesn’t mean he doesn’t know how to defend himself. For all we know, he could’ve taken a self defense martia art, or a seminar. Just because he teaches MMA, doesn’t mean he used his mma skill to disarm him.
A mixed martial artist couldn’t disarm a dead man with no arms… But seriously a guns not that hard to disarm. It’s most dangerous when they’re out of your reach. At close range I’d be more afraid of a knife, but those are almost as easy.
To CNW, what good would it do to remove the clip if there’s already a round in the chamber? That one bullet will still fire and it only takes one bullet to kill you. Removing the clip: not a smart move.
Why would you wanna disarm someone? If you have a knife or unarmed and the other person has a gun do you really think it’s smart to still try and take the gun away? There’s other ways to take a gun away that makes more sense then the video you posted but yes it is pretty silly.
He’s a martial artist first and nearly all martial artists learn gun disarms at some point. Remember though that he didn’t just jump at the guy and go all Bruce Lee on him. He waited until he had others out of danger, saw an opportunity, and went for it. This could have also turned out very badly for him and the other people in the house. He is no doubt very skilled, but also very lucky.
If he got creative with the Kimura lock, and did it standing up, he probably just broke the thug’s arm and took his gun. The Kimura lock can be applied standing up you know; there are many variations of it, and a competent grappler can adapt it. The article said the gunman was screaming, so, I’m guessing Vera must have Kimura’d him or something.
