Well you pick a kind of martial art that appeals to you and then find a gym. Wrestle in high school thats considered a martial art and then find a gym for after school. Its easy to learn.

Learn a martial art, then add complimentary arts to what you’ve learned.

MMA really isn’t a new concept. People have been combining karate with judo, TDK with wrestling, kung fu with ju-jitsu, etc for decades. It’s only new that someone made up rules and put it on TV.

Personally, I teach myself using internet tutorials in my area of interest. I’m am 15, 10 pounds heavier and 2 inches shorter. Start with this list, inorder to seek out your styles to learn After you have chosen what you want to learn, search it on youtube.com Never underestimate the power of a good tutorial. I have benifited from many of those videos and I’ve even made one. Expert village does a great many videos where you can learn a ton.

I have also discovered that if you sign up for a netflix two week free trial (ask for a parent’s credit card) you can find a variety of dvd’s to learn from. Try getting the 4 dvd plan, and get some martial arts instructional dvd’s (often found in sports and fitness). Then send them back when you are done, and cancel the free trial before the end of the two weeks to avoid charges. I have liked it, and might actually get a plan now. There’s a pretty good selection and you can find all sorts of self defense. If you are efficient with the trial, you can get a lot out of it.

Another important part of learning mixed martial arts is practice. Do you have a good friend or sibling who will spar with you? If you have someone who will help you test you moves safely, then you can learn by application. It’s crucial for you to have a good sparring partner, or at least a punching bag. If you need any equipment, I suggest garage sales. I see sparring equipment a lot, and have gotten a great punching bag and a kick bag for really cheap. If your interested in weapons for practice. Look it up on instructables.com Personally I find the best way to make practice weapons is to use cut up pool noodles and pvc pipe or bamboo. (slide pieces of the noodle on the striking ends of pipe to make sparring swords or staffs)

There are a ton of options for you, so just do a little research. Idk where you live, but in my state they have free contests at some pizza parlors and public places where you can enter to win a gym membership or martial arts classes. Just enter them when you see them, and you might get lucky. Some even give classes just for signing up. Formal instruction on basic hand to hand is important in order for you to learn. Any classes you can take, are often benificial to your learning experience. I started in 4th grade with a little formal training from a 7th degree blackbelt who used to own a studio, but then he taught mixed martial arts through the rec center. It helps to learn stances, strikes and blocks first from anyone who is experienced. If you recieve formal instruction for the basics, you can build on it and learn faster. A mixture of independent learning and guided is good.

Anyhow, I hope this helps. You dont have to take all of my suggestions, but these are just the cheap and easy ways to learn. Goodluck to you.

It doesnt metter what your height, weight or age is. EVERYONE can learn martial arts, mixed or any kind, its for everyone. i am 13 years old i d mixed martial arts, whch in my experience is the best kind of martial arts since it is also practical aswell as keeping you fit, improving confidence, making you feel safer and know how too handull maybe violent situations and its a great hobbie and its fun. how do you learn it? find a martial arts academy/ classes near you or at least if there isnt one go too a karate class and you may find some links while you are there too a mixed martial arts school :o) good luck x
