tjw asked:

I have a team of guys that I train with. We train very hard and are very serious about this. The problem is we don’t have any formal training. I first learned Jiu-Jitsu from instructional tapes. We have trained with wrestlers and Jiu-Jitsu students before. We’ve even had a little work from guys that box.(There’s a boxing gym not far from here.) I believe I am ready to compete. I’d like to try amatuer MMA. I’m having a hard time finding anything that isn’t too far at first. I sent an application to a place in Indiana. I even had my bloodwork done this week. I’d like to find something around Ohio. I’m in PA.
Sorry thats so long. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you need to be a ranked fighter in some fighting style then go hunting for a event you think you can compete in ….. start looking in montreal canada or alaska, there are many….. good luck….j

Just go an enter you don’t have to explain what style you will fight under.Be advised that they don’t just get out there and street fight there is a point base system to each match. If your looking for a free for all you need to find a ultimate fighting completion,or a hard core bare knuckle fight they are mostly under ground though.

Join a mixed martial arts school…you’re coach and can assist you in finding amatuer events to compete in.

You need to attend a good MMA school. Promoters go to this schools looking for fighters for upcoming events. If a school puts out good fighter, promoters come back. The reality is, you may need to move closer to a top school to train. Just like if you want to be a movie star, you need to move to Hollywood. Same with MMA.

Sorry but you’re definitely NOT ready to competition in MMA. You’ll need to train at a MMA school before you even step into the ring or cage.

I’m a Muay Thai fighter and I use to think I know all about Muay Thai that I learned with my friends until I join a gym. I found out I was so wrong and everything was totally off and it took me a while before I even start to fight.

The way I always got fights was to talk to other fighters in the region you want to fight in. My first mma fight I got because my brother was a fighter and he introduced me to the promoter (Mark Coleman) told me that I probably wouldn’t fight but stay around. Then I got called up 30 minutes before the fight. If you don’t know any fighters then go to MMA.TV and look at the events page. they have the e-mails of the promoters so fighters can e-mail them. Just tell them you are a new set of fighters give names, weights, any experiences (boxing, wrestling, and schools etc.), phone numbers and e-mails. This is the other way I get fights if I can’t get on to local shows
